Week #22 - Understanding God's Expectation

What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.

James 2:14-17

Greeting and introduction from Men at the Cross Founder, Joe White.

1. Our faith is to take us into the world, not to insulate us from it. How can we possibly walk out what we say we believe if we were to, as the man in this video was instructed, not touch anything? Has there been a time when you felt as if you'd rather just look and not touch another's pain?

2. Jesus talks of the things that we do unto the least of these as done unto Him. When was the last time that your faith has caused you to do something for the least of these as a practical demonstration of your beliefs? Do you think those opportunities are available daily if you were to look harder for them? Check out the creative way this family of full time RV'ers has come up with to reach out.

3. Michael W. Smith's movie "The Second Chance" shares the story of a Pastor who became more interested in his numbers than the transformed lives of the people he was to be serving. The song "Its all in the serve" from this movie illustrates the response Jesus asks us to have to our brothers... to serve and love one another. How well are you responding to that call, and how can you improve?

4. Outside of his comfort zone and without any super powers, Bolt realizes he's just an ordinary dog as he risks his own safety to help Mittens the cat escape from a pound. We are called to "visit others (widows and orphans) in their distress as what Jesus called true religion in James 1:27. What challenges have you faced as you considered "visiting" someone in their troubles?
