Week #17 - God's Blessings

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matt. 5:3-9

Greeting and introduction from Men at the Cross Founder, Joe White.

1. As these Sudanese refugees get their orientation to their new Western lives, reflect on the amount of blessings that we so often take for granted in our day to day lives. In the midst of all of our creature comforts, how can we be sure that we "hunger and thirst" for the righteousness of Christ? How can we become the gentle and the pure in heart?

2. Bobby DuCharme's story is a great example of the power of Christ to put peace in the life of an individual. An up and coming professional surfer, he became a quadriplegic in an accident and had lost all hope. What tragedy or trial in your life has God transformed into a blessing and what did you learn as a result of it?

3. If the pure in heart shall see God, how can you keep your heart pure? What are you doing to be responsible for keeping your heart pure? How does staying in the word of God help this process?

4. Why is it so difficult for you to "Be still and know that I am God?" How does meditating on God's Word put the world in slow motion and bring peace?
