Week #11 - Covenant

"But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD. "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." Jeremiah 31:33

And in the same way He (Jesus at the Last supper) took the cup after they (the disciples) had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood." (parenthesis added) Luke 22:20

2. Moses carried the Ten Commandments, the anchor of the "Old Covenant" from Mount Sinai. God says in Jeremiah 31 that He has written His "New Covenant" in my heart and yours.

How does the "New Covenant" in Jesus' death on the cross differ from the "Old Covenant" in the laws of Moses?

3. In western society, marriage is our closest understanding to a "covenant" ceremony, yet our understanding is still short of that of the eastern societies of Christ's time. The term "Covenant" means "cutting a blood covenant," and the shedding of blood was one of the seven required steps of the ceremony. This video explains some of the Jewish traditions within their marriage ceremony, a ceremony focused on contractual obligations. What new insights do you learn here? How does it change your understanding of the "price" He paid to secure the contract in His blood?
